Avid is a brand which is owned by SRAM – a popular bike component manufacturing company. There are two types of brakes manufactured by the company – hydraulic and ball bearing disc brakes. Whether or not you require hydraulic or ball bearing disc brakes is the first thing you’ll have to decide when looking to buy a set of Avid BB7 brakes. New models usually cost around $100-120 while used Avid BB7 brakes can cost considerably less than this. As always, it’s important to know the exact condition of pre owned Avid BB7 brakes before you buy.

BB7 mountain brakes come with a graphite gray finish as well as a roundagon rotor. The rotor size is 160x185x203mm – the road version has the same rotor size and 140mm rear only. This is the same as the BB5 although the BB5 Mountain has a black finish rather than gray. All the models come with a Tri align calliper position system although only the BB7 has dual knob adjustment system and a two piece calliper design.

One advantage of the ball bearing disc brakes manufactured by Avid is that they all come with tool free pad replacement. There’s nothing more frustrating than needing to change your disc brakes only to find that it’s a more difficult task than it should be. The BB7 and BB7 road weigh around 329 while the road version is slightly lighter than the BB5 which weighs around 335g. This is one of the primary differences between the two versions along with the two piece design.

Although Avid BB7 brakes are generally inexpensive compared to other brands and models you can find them for even cheaper if you buy used. Used Avid BB7 brakes can often sell for less than $100 although it’s important that you know who you are buying from so that you can be sure of their credibility and trustworthiness. There are also a number of places where you can buy BB7 replacement parts online if something should go wrong with your brakes.
