Brakes are arguably the most important part of any bike – be it mountain or road. Avid disc brakes are amongst the most popular for riders around the world due to their simplicity and quality. Disc brakes manufactured by SRAM (the company which own the Avid brand) fall into two distinct categories – ball bearing disc brakes and hydraulic disc brakes. Some of the models included within the Avid disc brake range include the BB7 and BB5 (ball bearing), XX and Elixir series (hydraulic).

Avid Elixir Disc Brakes
There are several different types of Avid Elixir disc brakes for sale – namely the Elixir CR Mag, Elixir CR, Elixir R and Elixir 5. All the models are hydraulic disc brakes rather than ball bearing. The price of Elixir disc brakes for sale depends on the exact model. For example, Avid Elixir R front disc brakes will cost around $200 in most cases. It’s important to look at the different features of the various Avid Elixir disc brakes as well as what they are intended to be used for. For example, the Elixir CR Mag is intended for All Mountain, trail and XC biking only. It also comes with a carbon fiber lever as well as a light lever body.
Avid Code Disc Brakes
There are two models of Avid Code disc brakes – the Code and Code 5. Both are built to provide precision breaking and are intended to be used in downhill and freeride situations. The Code 5 can also be used for all mountain bikes and comes with a four piston caliper. Avid Code 5 disc brakes are simplified compared to Code brakes and hence are usually cheaper while still providing drip free bleeding and power reserve geometry. The Avid code series are hydraulic disc brakes.
Avid BB5 Disc Brakes
One of the several ball bearing Avid disc brakes is the BB5. There are two versions – the BB5 and BB5 Road. Avid claim that the BB5 disc brake is the easiest mechanical disc brake to setup. There is also the ability to easily adjust the modulation of the brakes which is a bonus compared to hydraulics. Avid BB5 disc brakes are relatively inexpensive compared to other models due to their simplicity.
Avid BB7 Disc Brakes
The other series of ball bearing Avid disc brakes is the BB7. This also comes in a regular and road version. Avid BB7 disc brakes for sale are a bit more expensive than their BB5 cousin although still a lot cheaper than other options.
