SRAM Red Derailleurs

The SRAM Red series of components is known for its high quality and the SRAM Red derailleur is no exception. As you’d expect, this quality increases the price, however. For example, an SRAM Red rear derailleur will cost several hundred dollars. The model has a light weight design along with a precise gear changes and 10 speeds. The weight is a mere 153 g. SRAM Red derailleurs are compatible with Max Tooth 28T.

SRAM Rival Derailleurs

SRAM Rival rear derailleurs are much cheaper than Red models at around $70 each. The rear derailleurs weight around 227g for the short cage model and 232g for the medium cage model and have a carbon parallelogram link. Both the front and back Campagnolo Centaur derailleurs are built with weight in mind and hence are suitable for extreme and casual riders who want a precise and reliable gear change.

If you don’t have the budget for Campagnolo derailleurs but still would like to get them then it may be worth looking at cheap and used Campagnolo derailleurs. Although pre-owned derailleurs may have scuff marks and not be in top condition they can often be found for much cheaper prices. Force Series

SRAM openly admit that the SRAM Force series (2010 edition) uses many similar components and technologies to the Red series. This is definitely not a bad thing as the SRAM Red series is one of the company’s flagship products. The total weight of the SRAM Force series is only 1951g and it includes the Dual Pivot brakes as well as a stiffer crankset. Along with the SRAM Force brakeset the other components such as the PowerChain, Cassette and DoubleTap controls are all worth considering.

Campagnolo Veloce Brakes

Make sure you check who is selling cheap Campagnolo brakes before you buy though as it’s important to know that they can be trusted. Centaur brakes have been built to be as light as possible while retaining the performance that has made them so popular amongst riders over the years. The design of the Centaur brakes is very aggressive compared with other models and the front brake is more powerful compared to the rear in order to reduce the chances of locking up.

Campagnolo Mirage Brakes

Campagnolo Mirage brakes usually cost around $50 for the standard version. Mirage Pivot brakes only weigh around 340g and come with a design that improves braking power while at the same time increasing modulation and progressiveness.

Other Campagnolo Brakes

Some other Campagnolo brakes available include the Delta, Chorus and Xenon. Campagnolo are well known for their style and devotion to aesthetics to its no surprise that all the brakes manufactured by them look great. When buying Campagnolo brakes make sure you have a look at the different options before making a decision. You also need to ensure that you know which model of Campagnolo brakes you are getting. Brakes manufactured by the company are often updated to reduce weight and increasing braking power.

Speedplay Zero Pedals

Speedplay Zero pedals are perfect for the racer as they are lightweight, come with dual side entry and can be bought as either a float or fixed position pedal. Wellgo specialize in producing high quality bike pedals and the MG-1 MAG is no exception. It’s also a relatively inexpensive pedal costing only around $50 in some cases. Used Wellgo MG-1 pedals for sale are also relatively easy to find. The fact that the pedals are relatively light is a major bonus.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wellgo MG-1 Pedals

The most impressive thing about MG-1 pedals is how light they are for the price. Generally to get pedals this light you have to spend a lot more than $50-60. The pedals also provide a lot of traction which is important for BMX and downhill riding. Weight and traction are two essential factors of any BMX pedal and the MG-1s more than hold their own against other, more expensive, alternatives.

A big advantage of Wellgo MG-1 pedals is the price. It’s possible to buy used MG-1 pedals for around $30 online and they can be bought new at around $50 in some cases. Compared to other BMX pedals that boast a similar weight this is a good price.

One decision you’ll have to make is whether you want clipless pedals or not. MG-1 pedals aren’t clipless which may be a disadvantage to some although it mainly comes down to personal preference. Platform pedals have a number of advantages over clipless pedals – especially for BMX riding.

One downside that some people have found to the MG-1 pedals is that they dent relatively easily. This, however, isn’t a major problem and is mainly down to aesthetics rather than performance. The pedals also aren’t considered to be the sturdiest around although they can stand up to a reasonable amount of stress and strain. This lack of strength may be a consequence of the fact that the pedals are so light so you need to decide which is more important to you – durability or weight. The pedals are made out of magnesium which is why they aren’t as strong as some other alternatives.

SRAM Mountain Bike Shifters

There are three main mountain bike SRAM shifter product lines available at the moment – Attack, MRX and Centera.

The Attack line of SRAM Shifters is made up of two versions – the Attack Twist Shifter and Attack Trigger Shifter. Choosing between a twist and trigger shifting system is largely a matter of personal preference as there are advantages to both. Both models come with 2:1 Shimano technology as well as speeds 9/8. The twist shifter has 9/8 index speeds.

There is only a single SRAM shifter in the Centera product line and it’s a twist shifter. The SRAM Centera shifter comes with 2:1 Shimano technology as well as SRS. It also has 9/8 index speeds. Although the price of mountain SRAM shifters is usually relatively inexpensive you can still find used SRAM Centera shifters available if you need to save money.

There are two different twist shifters included within the MRX product line. The first is the MRX Comp Twist Shifter and the second is the MRX Twist Shifter. Both come with speeds of 8/7/6/5 index and 2:1 Shimano technology.

SRAM Road Bike Shifters

SRAM have four main series of road bike components and each has its own shifter. For example, the 2010 SRAM Red DoubleTap control is part of the SRAM Red product line and delivers a smooth gear change through a simple “tap”. The combination of brake and shift lever is light and durable as well as comfortable and hence are perfect for long rides. They are expensive, however. For example the SRAM Red Double Tap control system can cost over $500 depending on where you buy. For this reason looking for used SRAM shifters is often a good idea. Pre owned models may not be in top condition but will be a lot cheaper.

All four of the product lines – Apex, Force, Red and Rival – use the DoubleTap system for gear changing. This means you get a smooth shift in a single motion which leaves you free to concentrate on other things. There are differences between the models, however, including how they look and feel.

Before you look for road SRAM shifters for sale it’s usually a good idea to try a few out. They all have a slightly different feel due to the variation in location of the levers.

Eggbeater

Crank Brothers pedals are made for a wide range of different biking styles. The 5050 product line is specifically for freeride riders and comes with a flat pedal for complete control over movements. There are two different versions, the X and XX. Crank Brothers 5050 X pedals use ball bearings while 5050X pedals use sealed bearings.
