Kona are well known for their mountain bikes and components and their frames are also popular. Kona frames include the Kona Cowan, Stinky, Kula and Explosif. There are plenty of cheap Kona frames available if you’re willing to buy second hand from auction sites such as eBay although you should be aware of the potential problems with doing this too. For example, you need to ensure that the frame is in good condition and that the seller is trustworthy.

Kona Explosif Frame
To buy a new Kona Explosif frame costs around $800-900 although you save money by getting one second hand. The Explosif is a cromoly steel frame with dropouts that are adjustable and an attractive design. The sloping top tube is typical of Kona frames and provides a great feel to a mountain bike. Another benefit to the sloping top tube is the extra clearance. As you’d expect, Kona Explosif frames are available in a number of different sizes from 14” to 22” although the size shouldn’t affect the price.
Kona Stinky Frame
There are several different versions of Kona Stinky frame and the price depends on which one you decide to buy. For example, a Kona Stinky Supreme frame 2010 model can cost over $2000 while a Stinky Air Downhill 2008 will be around half this price. Make sure you know which version you’re buying and look for reviews of that specific year and model in order to ensure that you don’t choose the wrong frame.
Kona Kula Frame
Another Kona frame available at the moment is the Kona Kula. Like the Stinky the Kula has a number of different versions including the Kula Supreme which costs over $1000. Generally the older versions of the frame are cheaper. The Kula Supreme is a light and sturdy frame that includes an internal headset and hydroformed tube. This means that the tubes provide a superior ride performance and are also structurally sound. Like most Kona frames the Kula comes with a sloping top tube.
Kona Cowan Frame
Kona Cowan frames are built for several different purposes. For example, there is a Cowan 2007 jump frame. Full suspension and hardtail versions are also available. Which one you should buy depends on the type of riding you perform. A full suspension Kona Cowan frame can cost over $1300 while a hardtail frame will usually be considerably less. The price depends on the year it was produced though.
