SRAM Force Brakes

SRAM manufacture several different product series for road bikes – one of them being SRAM Force. Each product line has a set of components including brakesets. SRAM Force brakes aren’t as expensive as SRAM Red brakes but are still high quality components that provide decent stopping power and modulation.

Price

A set of SRAM Force brakes (rear and front caliper set) can cost anywhere up to $180 although there are some available for cheaper than this. As we always say, used SRAM Force brakes can often be found for cheap prices if you’re willing to take the time to look. The price also depends on which version of the Force series the brakes are. Newer editions such as the 2010 model will nearly always be more expensive.

Specifications

SRAM Force brakes are designed to be lightweight as well as to complement the sleek design of the rest of the Force series of components. According to SRAM, the SRAM Force brakeset is manufactured to provide maximum power while at the same time remaining lightweight enough to be viable on a road bike. Some of the features of the SRAM Force brakes include:

•    A skeletonized “Dual Pivot” system which allows for increased breaking power as well as a greater sense of progression during braking.
•    Manufactured using stainless steel pivot bolts and cold forged arms for greater durability.
•    An indexed quick release system and powerful springs mean that the brakes return to their original position quickly and sharply.
•    A weight of 280g.
•    SRAM Pad with a cartridge holder that can be adjusted to suit an individual cyclist's own needs and personal preference.

Overall, the SRAM force brakeset provides a number of the features of SRAM Red brakes for a lower price. It’s important to try them out before you buy, however, in order to make sure that they are the right kind of brakes for your riding style.

Force Series

SRAM openly admit that the SRAM Force series (2010 edition) uses many similar components and technologies to the Red series. This is definitely not a bad thing as the SRAM Red series is one of the company’s flagship products. The total weight of the SRAM Force series is only 1951g and it includes the Dual Pivot brakes as well as a stiffer crankset. Along with the SRAM Force brakeset the other components such as the PowerChain, Cassette and DoubleTap controls are all worth considering.
