SRAM Apex Derailleurs
An SRAM Apex rear derailleur usually costs around $50 although this varies depending on whether you can find a used or pre owned model. Used SRAM derailleurs are nearly always priced lower than brand new models although there are additional things to think about when buying second hand. The rear derailleur comes with 10s, precise “Exact Actuation” ratio and a choice between short and mid cage sizes. As you’d expect from SRAM the derailleur comes with a sleek black finish.
The SRAM Apex rear derailleurs weigh 200g for the short cage model and 210g for the long cage model.
SRAM Force Derailleurs
The new 2010 edition of the SRAM Force rear derailleur is more expensive than the Apex at around $120. Buying an earlier model will generally be cheaper. The reason for the increased price is that the SRAM Force rear derailleur has been developed to provide very precise gear shifting and is built from high quality materials. The B Knuckle is made from aluminum, the inner link is made of magnesium and the AL cage is carbon-fiber (on some models).
Like the Apex the SRAM Force derailleur uses the Exact Actuation system and weighs only 174g. SRAM Force Front derailleurs usually cost less at around $60.
SRAM Red Derailleurs
The SRAM Red series of components is known for its high quality and the SRAM Red derailleur is no exception. As you’d expect, this quality increases the price, however. For example, an SRAM Red rear derailleur will cost several hundred dollars. The model has a light weight design along with a precise gear changes and 10 speeds. The weight is a mere 153 g. SRAM Red derailleurs are compatible with Max Tooth 28T.
SRAM Rival Derailleurs
SRAM Rival rear derailleurs are much cheaper than Red models at around $70 each. According to the sales material for the SRAM Rival derailleur the produce is durable, reliable and provides a high level of performance. It can cope with 10 speeds and uses Exact Actuation technology. The weight of the rear derailleur is 188g and it is compatible with Max tooth 27T. If you want to buy SRAM Rival derailleurs then make sure you check for used models. Used SRAM derailleurs are often a lot cheaper and some are in good condition.
